Jim Thome to Phillies? Maybe philadelphia Agree To Deal With Veteran Slugger

PHILADELPHIA - the stage at the Cleveland City Club Jim Thome was taken on October 25, and spoke in general about staying in the game.
It gets a little more specific on Friday.
Although in August was taken by India, the unification of the record designated hitter with the team and city that adored him, Thome agreed to a one-year contract with the Phillies, according to a source close to negotiations.

"I'm going to keep playing," Thome said last month. "I just need a team to call me I can not go play in his own backyard .. I do not know the demand for 41-year-DH, but my spirit is I want to keep playing."
Phillies, but the other teams he spent time with her over 21 seasons, went through the want of $ 1.25 million. He will take a physical on Saturday, and if it goes well then he will bring his 604 career home runs to Citizens Bank Park that spring will come.

Philadelphia, lost the division series by the St. Louis Cardinals, certainly can use his power from the left side, even where - and if - he will play on the field, is a difficult question. Thome, a Phillie 2003-05, did not play defensive since 2007, and a little rusty at first base, he must be called to play there as Ryan Howard recovers from surgery on his left Achilles.

While certainly interested in the rest of the Indians, Thome set the stage for a way out of the way he answered questions at the City Club two weeks ago.

"In one or two years, this team can do some very special," Thome said of India, sounding like a player who wanted to retire for them. "They've put the foundation in, doing things the right way."

Thome will be reunited with Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. Both form a committee from their days together in Cleveland, and almost did it shorter - as in four months ago - before sneaking Indians and the Twins acquired him from Minnesota to the Phillies lurking.
