Ex-Tiger Woods' caddy, Steve Williams, Causes Stir By Woods On Inference Racial To Bake

SHANGHAI - Tiger Woods' former caddy makes sense again, this time using a racial slur to disparage his former boss during an award Caddies roasted in Shanghai.
Steve Williams received the award Friday night for the fun of "Celebration of the Year" for his TV interview after Adam Scott won the Bridgestone Invitational. That was the day Williams said it was "the best victory of his life," although in a bag with Woods for 13 majors.
At a party full of banter award, Williams said of the interview, "That's my goal to push right up the black a ******."
That the line draw the biggest reaction at a party attended by many players, caddies, officials and some media. There is a mixture of laughter and shock, with several players switching to one another with wide eyes and jaws agape.
Terms of the party is that all the comments off the record, but a few caddies could not stop talking about it long after it ends. Approaching the morning at breakfast, Williams was stunned to know that the British tabloids have gone with the story.
"Why did they do that?" he said. "Everything was meant to be fun."
Hours later, Williams posted a comment on his website.
"I apologize for the comment I made last night in the Annual Awards dinner in Shanghai Caddy," he said. "Players and caddies look forward to this night all year, and the spirit was always joking and fun now I realize how my comment could be interpreted as racist .. However, I assure you that it's not my intention. I sincerely apologize to Tiger and everyone else I been offended. "
Woods in Australia, although it does not take long for comments to get back to him.
"I was with Tiger last night when he heard the news," said Mark Steinberg, agent at Excel Sports Management, The Associated Press. "We got some calls from people who sound like they left the party caddy Tiger certainly no he did not know exactly what they say But if some reports -... That all seems accurate - is true, then it's sad it comes down to this . "
"It's regrettable comment, and there's really not that Tiger could do or say She's just going to move .."
Some players who were at dinner on Saturday morning said they had no comment. Scott prepares for the third round of the HSBC Champions, where he was one shot out of the lead. He went to two World Golf Championship this year.
This is not the first time Williams has got into trouble because of his words.
Three years ago at a dinner banquet in New Zealand, he made disparaging comments about Phil Mickelson. Williams said that meant in fun, even though Woods has he apologized to Mickelson.
Comments in Shanghai to take a more sensitive nature among the British press for allegedly footballer John Terry's comments racist against Anton Ferdinand during Chelsea's 1-0 loss to Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League loss last month.
Although Williams said his comments were meant in fun to match the spirit of the night, no disguise hostility Williams feel more fired this summer.
What makes the reaction to Williams' at Firestone so pointing is that it is the first time Woods and Scott are in the same tournament since Williams has been fired - and that was Scott's first victory this year.
Williams has denied Woods' version of how their partnership ended, and he said at Firestone that he was short shrifted by Woods despite his loyalty to former No. 1 player during the sex scandal that derailed his career.
These comments also put Scott in the midst of the chaos that existed, and did not think to go as soon as possible.
Woods and Scott who are in the same group at the Australian Open next week, and there is a possibility they could also face off in the President Cup in Melbourne next week.

Jim Thome to Phillies? Maybe philadelphia Agree To Deal With Veteran Slugger

PHILADELPHIA - the stage at the Cleveland City Club Jim Thome was taken on October 25, and spoke in general about staying in the game.
It gets a little more specific on Friday.
Although in August was taken by India, the unification of the record designated hitter with the team and city that adored him, Thome agreed to a one-year contract with the Phillies, according to a source close to negotiations.

"I'm going to keep playing," Thome said last month. "I just need a team to call me I can not go play in his own backyard .. I do not know the demand for 41-year-DH, but my spirit is I want to keep playing."
Phillies, but the other teams he spent time with her over 21 seasons, went through the want of $ 1.25 million. He will take a physical on Saturday, and if it goes well then he will bring his 604 career home runs to Citizens Bank Park that spring will come.

Philadelphia, lost the division series by the St. Louis Cardinals, certainly can use his power from the left side, even where - and if - he will play on the field, is a difficult question. Thome, a Phillie 2003-05, did not play defensive since 2007, and a little rusty at first base, he must be called to play there as Ryan Howard recovers from surgery on his left Achilles.

While certainly interested in the rest of the Indians, Thome set the stage for a way out of the way he answered questions at the City Club two weeks ago.

"In one or two years, this team can do some very special," Thome said of India, sounding like a player who wanted to retire for them. "They've put the foundation in, doing things the right way."

Thome will be reunited with Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. Both form a committee from their days together in Cleveland, and almost did it shorter - as in four months ago - before sneaking Indians and the Twins acquired him from Minnesota to the Phillies lurking.
